Lives Interrupted
Across the country homes, schools, businesses, churches, and factories have been abandoned; people have vacated the premises, often leaving their belongings behind. Some of the reasons for these are fire, flood, foreclosure, death. Discovering these places and exploring them is fascinating, frightening, and sad. Who are the people who lived, taught, prayed, and conducted business in these places? Where did they go? Why did they leave? So many stories in what has been left behind, what interrupted the lives of these people. Stepping into an abandoned building is always an adventure; I am awestruck by the devastation, yet drawn to the beauty of what remains and the stories that are left behind. Most of these places will be demolished, devoured by vegetation, carted away in pieces, never to exist again. I am drawn to document these abandoned buildings, to preserve their legacies.
